The church was inaugurated in 1385 as a place of worship for the St. Martha pilgrim's hospital. Since then the church is significant in that it used to be used as the rehearsal room of the master singers, the “Meistersinger”. This tradition has been continued, to this day the church is used as a concert venue for the Nuremberg Academy of Music and other choirs and ensembles.
