The “Mauthalle”, the Malting, is one of the most important historic buildings in the city. It had to be nearly completely rebuilt after the 2nd World War. It was built in 1500, originally as a corn exchange and was converted into a commercial building in 1898. In 1929, the Nuremberger Brewery was established in its cellars. The words “first a corn exchange, then a tollhouse, now an inn” can be seen engraved on its walls. The brewery still exists on a small scale, along with a restaurant.
