This ruin is all that is left of the splendid Katharinakirche which part of a Dominican convent in the Middle Ages. It was burnt down completely during the 2nd World War and was never rebuilt. Only the outer walls can be seen today. It is used today as a venue for open air cultural events and has become a landmark in the old quarter of Nuremberg. Around 40 events take place between June and August as the "st. katharina open air".
